January Milestones

January 31, 2010

January has been a HUGE month!!!!  Alexa is going through the dreaded 8/9 month (corrected age) sleep regression…which makes sense with all the new tricks she’s been learning.

I have the dates saved for most of the events of this month, so here’s a list!

  • Jan 9th – Alexa started showing signs of stranger anxiety and separation anxiety.  It was the first time someone (other than one of us) has picked her up…and she’s cried.  It was resolved quickly…but now she will start to sob if neither mom nor dad are in the room with her for very long.  She has also started to get upset when she doesn’t get her way.  This was the first day that she was visibly annoyed by having something taken away from her…that she shouldn’t be playing with.
  • Jan 11th – Alexa started feeding herself finger foods.  Now she can pick her puffs and Cheerios us using the pincer grasp, and bring the yum yums to her mouth.  Well..and everything else in her line of sight!
  • Jan 14th – She has started hugging her stuffed toys.  If you pretend to snuggle with one she will imitate you if you then hand her the toy.
  • Jan 17th – Alexa pushed herself up to sit from laying on her stomach.  Now tummy time is nonexistent because she knows how to get out of it, ha!  That’s ok….she’s crazy strong as it is.
  • Jan 18th – The sweetest milestone yet.  She has started hugging our heads and giving big sloppy baby kisses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Jan 27th – YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  She crawled forward for the first time.  Now she’s officially mobile and can get pretty far…PRETTY FAST!!!  We also had the first REAL successful clapping, where she actually made noise when her hands came together.  So cute!  She does it all the time now.
  • Jan 29th – This one is just funny…it was the first time she figured out her nose has holes and stuck a finger up there 😛

Miss Alexa is also getting her top 2 teeth, one has broke through (though it’s just there at the surface for now), the other is making its way out of the gums (you can see the white of the tooth right under the skin).  She’s been fairly miserable because of it.  I guess 2 growing in at the same time is more than she can handle in the middle of the night.  Poor baby 😦

Tomorrow is the first day of yet another month!  We can’t wait to see what else Alexa has in store for us 🙂
